Creature Cloth and Hair TD

Our Creatures Department are now accepting applications for keen Creature Cloth and Hair TD’s to join our offices in Wellington, New Zealand; or our Vancouver, Canada Hub.

A Creature Cloth and Hair Technical Director is responsible for the set-up and simulation of dynamic elements that are worn by, attached to, or interacted with by digital characters and assets. This includes clothing, hair, fur, feathers, as well as props with dynamic elements, ropes and boat sails to name a few.

Working within the Creatures department, the Creature Cloth TD works especially closely with the creature riggers as well as the modeling and animation departments to ensure all cloth functions properly across the pipeline as well as ensuring assets from other departments work within the cloth pipeline. This is a technical role that requires some scripting and previous cloth simulation experience.

The Creature Cloth and Hair TD must have the technical knowledge to troubleshoot a variety of issues across the pipeline.

Good debugging and reasonable python scripting skills are seen as important attributes.

Role requirements:

  • 4+ years CFX for VFX with a focus on photo-realistic results
  • Production experience with hair/fur simulation setup
  • Production experience with hair/fur shot work
  • Maya and/or Houdini experience
  • A strong understanding of CG production workflow and how cloth and hair/fur assets work within the pipeline
  • An eye for dynamic performance to achieve realistic results
  • Python scripting ability

Desirable Additional Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience with several cloth and hair solvers
  • Marvelous Designer experience
  • Being able to communicate effectively, work collaboratively and give and receive constructive feedback will be critical to your success in this role
  • You’ll have excellent time keeping skills and strive to maintain a resilient and constructive workspace within your team.

This is an onsite role. To be eligible you must be based in / or able to relocate to one of our Hubs in either - Wellington, New Zealand; or Vancouver, Canada.
