Wētā FX is accepting Expressions of Interest to join our On Set Team as an On Set Technical Director, based in New Zealand, The United States, and Canada.

The WētāFX On Set Team are multi-disciplinary Technical Directors familiar with all aspects of On Set data capture. They work closely with VFX Supervisors and relevant On Set Departments to capture and catalogue a comprehensive library of On Set assets.

We are looking expand that team with crew skilled in one or more of the following disciplines:

On Set VFX Data Wrangler

Responsibilities:

  • Obtaining and building a detailed database of camera metadata, and VFX notes
  • Executing lighting reference passes
  • Clearly communicating slate and camera set up information to the VFX Supervisor and On Set team
  • Assist with Slate Ref and HDRi photography
  • Assist with Tracking Marker placement
  • Working knowledge of Filemaker Pro

Survey & LiDAR

Responsibilities:

  • Establishing Survey Control Points, applying Tracking Markers, and surveying relevant slate information
  • Capturing and aligning LiDAR data of sets, and environments
  • Creating maya scenes that comprise of Survey and LiDAR data aligned to a common established space
  • Capture DSLR photography used to texture map LiDAR
  • Working knowlege of Maya, Leica Total and Scan Stations, Cyclone Core, and Cyclone Register 360

On Set Photographer

Responsibilities:

  • Capturing Slate Ref and HDRi Photography
  • Bracketed Texture Ref Photography
  • Photogrammetry Photography
  • Photo Booth Photography of Actors, Wardrobe, Props, and Weapons
  • Technical Photography experience needed for this role
  • Thorough knowledge of studio lighting and photographic techniques
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Bridge, Lightroom and Photoshop

Photo & Capture Booth Photographer

Responsibilities:

  • Operating and maintaining the Photo Booth
  • Capturing reference photography of actors, props, weapons, and wardrobe elements
  • Operating and maintaining the Photogrammetry Capture Booth
  • Photogrammetry of actors, props, and weapons.
  • Technical Photography experience needed for this role
  • Thorough knowledge of studio lighting and photographic techniques
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, Photoshop, Reality Capture, and Capture Grid
  • A demonstrable interest in photogrammetry and related processing software

All roles require:

  • 2+ years’ experience on VFX films, or comparable industries
  • Understanding of why On Set data is collected and used in the VFX pipeline
  • A good understanding of film set etiquette and the responsibilities of each department
  • Working knowledge of Windows and linux OS.
  • Professional level data catalogue, organization and management.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Canon 5D series cameras
  • Manage and maintenance of all equipment assigned to the role

You will need to be highly organized, with excellent time management skills and the ability to handle working in a pressurized environment. We value candidates who use their initiative and have good problem-solving abilities.
