At Weta Digital we are passionate about what we do. As a highly innovative and forward-thinking company, we attract some of the filmmaking world’s best creative and technical talent, with over 58 nationalities represented.
Despite its growth in recent years, Weta Digital strives to maintain an environment that supports a healthy work/life balance, and provide a workspace in which like-minded people can collaborate and thrive.
The process of welcoming you into the Weta Digital community begins the moment you sign your contract.
Our Crew Services team are here to make sure your re-location and orientation are as seamless as possible.
We can provide guidance and support around:
New Weta Digital crew travelling from overseas will be offered a pick up service from the airport. And if you're bringing your family, we have a support network in place to help them acclimatise quickly too.
Throughout the year there are a number of social events on the calendar to bring crew together in a fun way. There is the renowned Weta Digital Christmas party; but also more family friendly events such as the kids' Halloween extravaganza and the annual crew photo shoot.
While we thrive on an international stage, at its roots Weta Digital is a New Zealand company and our commitment to recruiting, retaining and upskilling Kiwis is testament to that. We actively recruit locally across all areas and departments.
Not a digital artist? We have roles in IT, R&D Developers, Facilities and Production crew to name a few. We offer entry level positions to emerging artists within the Shots Assistant TD team's annual intake and our burgeoning internship programs are growing by the year.
Our developer and technical crew number in the hundreds, and there are a wide variety of technical roles and career paths on offer, from cutting edge R&D posts focussed on imagery and simulation to more traditional business systems and web development. Our roles tend to suit those interested in working in a predominantly linux/opensource environment.
This year Weta Digital is offering summer internships to undergraduate students with an interest and flair in the following fields – Virtual Art, Virtual Reality, Lighting and Matte Painting. These internships are open to NZ residents/citizens with applicable skillsets and at least one year of tertiary study still ahead of them.
Applications for these roles are now closed but do watch this space for 2018 internship opportunities.
We have also branched out with internships run through The Rookies Awards. In the past we have offered 4 week placements in the Animation, Layout and Creatures departments with internships for 2018 still to be decided. Please head to their website for further information.
Also, from time to time, our Research and Development Departments offer internships to PhD candidates. This is in conjunction with visiting Professors who are engaged in research work with Weta Digital.
