Senior Animator

We have the amazing opportunity for experienced Senior Animators to join our award winning team onsite with starts between December and January 2025.

To be eligible you must be based in / or able to relocate to our Hub in Melbourne, Australia or Wellington, New Zealand for this role.

Grab this exciting opportunity to be part of Wētā FX's world class Animation team! Our Animation Department consists of over 100 super talented artists who are working on a variety of exciting film and episodic projects. If you have strong creature or character animation skills, we would love to hear from you!

We’re looking for artists who can provide the highest level of polish, as required by a photo-realistic medium. You’ll be a confident and clear communicator, have excellent interpersonal and time-keeping skills and be able to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.

Needs to have:

  • Five years animation experience in Visual Effects Animation on feature films.
  • Strong keyframe Creature Animation skills.
  • Strong Maya experience.
  • High level understanding and execution of mechanics, timing, physics, composition, cameras and staging.
  • Can hit strong key poses and string them together into solid blocking.
  • Has a strong eye for realistic performance and physics.
  • Experience working with motion capture in animation production.
  • Experience with Facial animation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have:

  • Previs experience.
  • A solid foundation in creating realistic facial performances using FACs-based facial animation rigs.
