Welcome
The process of welcoming you into the Wētā FX community begins the moment you sign your contract.
Our Crew Services team are here to make sure your re-location and orientation are as seamless as possible.
We can provide guidance and support around:
- Securing visas and travel details
- Sourcing accommodation
- Understanding your tax obligations and setting up a NZ bank account
- Getting to know Wellington City
- Meeting your department and familiarising yourself with the Wētā FX pipeline/workflow
New Wētā FX crew travelling from overseas can expect a high level of care. And if you're bringing your family, we have a support network in place to help them acclimatise quickly too.
Throughout the year there are a number of social events on the calendar to bring crew together in a fun way. There is the renowned Wētā FX Christmas party; but also more family friendly events such as the kids' Halloween extravaganza.
Careers
While we thrive on an international stage, at its roots Wētā FX is a New Zealand company and our commitment to recruiting, retaining and upskilling Kiwis is testament to that. We actively recruit locally across all areas and departments.
Not a digital artist? We have roles in IT, R&D Developers, Facilities and Production crew to name a few. We offer entry level positions to emerging artists within the Shots Assistant TD team's annual intake and our internship programs are growing by the year.
Our developer and technical crew number in the hundreds, and there are a wide variety of technical roles and career paths on offer, from cutting edge R&D posts focussed on imagery and simulation to more traditional business systems and web development. Our roles tend to suit those interested in working in a predominantly linux/open source environment.
Internships
Each year Wētā FX offers up to four summer internships to undergraduate students with an interest and flair in VFX. This opportunity is open to both undergrads and recent graduates. Successful interns will be working alongside top talent from around the globe; world class experts in their field. Please keep an eye on our Careers page or set up a job alert for information about these internships annually.
We also sponsor an annual internship run through The Rookies Awards. In the past, we have offered 4 week placements in the Animation, Layout, Creatures and Art departments. Applications for this usually open in March-May. For more information please visit https://www.therookies.co/
Also, from time to time, our Research and Development departments offer internships to PhD candidates. This is in conjunction with visiting Professors who are engaged in research work with Wētā FX.
